Great Indoors Challenge - Previous challenges

Previous Challenges

Please note that all of the below challenges are the previous challenges for CRAI Scouts' Great Indoors Challenge. You can still participate and submit, but this will only be to count towards the challenge award, and we will not be able to feature your clip/photo in the version that goes into our Social Media.

Challenge 1: The Necker Challenge

Deadline has passed and the resulting video is available here

This one is an easy one to get us started, and some of you might have already participated in this with your own groups, so you might already have the video ready to send.

All you have to do is create a video where your Scout Necker is thrown into the video clip, you catch it, do something fun, and then throw it back off. We will then pull all of these videos together and it will look like you have been throwing your neckers to each other. Here is an example video so you can see what we mean:  https://twitter.com/MynyddIsaScouts/status/1249955676413210624

You'll need someone to throw the necker from out of the camera shot, so thats something handy to get your grown up to do!

A few top tips for filming:

  • Film in landscape (phone on its side)
  • Don’t zoom on your phone/tablet – move the camera closer instead!
  • Make sure it’s well lit
  • Keep the camera steady

To send us your videos, please click this link and upload them directly onto the system for us. We won't be able to accept videos sent by any other means, but if you have difficulty, send us an email at thegreatindoors@craiscouts.org.uk and we can see what we can do to help.

The video upload link is: www.dropbox.com/request/VzT4tmEmFFGQfD4sDjDU  (Please put your group name in the same box as your surname)

Please ensure that you get an adult to submit your video for you.

Challenge 2: CRAI's Got Talent

See the video here

We are putting on a show, and wanted Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers from across CRAI to take part! Everyone has a talent, whether its singing, dancing, keepie-upies, magic tricks, story telling, or any other talent, we want to see what you've got! Don't worry...if your talent isn't perfect as long as you do your best and have fun, we will be there to cheer you along!

CRAI Scouts have never held a Scout Show since we were formed as a combined district, and so this really is a special opportunity to show off what we can! Plus, for the Scouts section, you have to take part in a Scout Show to get your Entertainers badge, so this really is an amazing opportunity.

A few important pointers for filming this challenge:

  • Aim for a maximum of approx 2 minutes (although if your video is shorter, thats fine)
  • Film in landscape (phone on its side)
  • Don’t zoom on your phone/tablet – move the camera closer instead!
  • Make sure you are fully in shot so that we can see your talent
  • Make sure it’s well lit
  • Keep the camera steady
  • Keep still for 5 seconds before and 5 seconds after your talent (this helps us with the editing).
  • In true 'CRAI's Got Talent' style, before you start, tell us your Name, which Scout Group or Unit you are from, and which section you are in (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers).

Unfortunately the deadline has now passed for submissions in time for the show, but those wanting to make a submission anyway as part of the Badge requirements are welcome to do so!

Please ensure that you get an adult to submit your video for you.

By submitting your videos to us, you are agreeing to CRAI Scouts storing them securely and using them on our website and Social Media channels, and also for your names to be passed to your section leaders. We will not be publishing names in the final video and we will not use your data for any other purpose. If you'd like to withdraw your consent please email mail@craiscouts.org.uk.

Challenge 3: Proud To Be a Scout

See the video here

From Saturday 27th June, Scouts across the UK are celebrating the first ever National Scout Pride Week; and the theme for this inaugural National Scout Pride Week is ‘Pride in our Values’.

We at The Scouts are proud to be doing everything we can at the moment to make our organisation inclusive, and so this is a really amazing opportunity to explore the things that make us different and why our differences matter and make us who we are. So we here at CRAI thought it would be really cool to get our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and volunteers to tell the world why you are proud to be a Scout. If you want to embrace the Pride season, feel free to get your rainbow flags out, but the most important thing here is that everyone gets their opportunity to say what makes them proud individually to be a Scout.

This is going to be a really short clip, so won’t take you very long at all. All you need to do is tell us why you are proud to be a Scout!

This will be broadcast live on our YouTube channel as part of our CRAI’s Got Talent show (and District AGM) on Friday 26th June, and so we need your videos in so that we can get everything ready for Show Night!

It’s a short video, and you have a short turn around time on this one, only 10 days to submit this video.

Important Instructions:

  • Aim for a total video length of approx 15-20 seconds (including introducing yourself, waiting 5 seconds, saying why you’re proud to be a Scout, and then 5 seconds afterwards.
  • Film in landscape (phone on its side)
  • Don’t zoom on your phone/tablet – move the camera closer instead!
  • Make sure you are fully in shot so that we can see you
  • Make sure it’s well lit
  • Keep the camera steady
  • Before you start, tell us your Name, which Scout Group or Unit you are from, and which section you are in (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers).
  • Then keep still for 5 seconds before you say “I’M PROUD TO BE A SCOUT BECAUSE ….. “ and 5 seconds after your speak (this helps us with the editing).

We will need your videos to be uploaded to the above link by 5pm on Wednesday 24th June 2020 so we can get cracking on the edit ready to show as part of CRAI’s Got Talent!!!
